Scoreboard Social — Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Scoreboard Social ("SBS," "we," "us") collects from people who play our games, what we do with it, and what choices you have. SBS is operated by JE Star, LLC d/b/a Scoreboard Social.
It covers both playscoreboardsocial.com (our marketing website) and scoreboardsocialapp.com (where you play).
There are two ways to play
Without an account. Scan the QR code at a venue and start playing. We don't ask for your name, email, or phone number, and you don't have to give us any. We still store your picks and your score so the leaderboard works, and we use browser storage on your phone to recognize you during the game.
With an account. You can create an account to keep your scores across games and venues. That asks for your name, email address, and a password. Creating an account is optional.
What we collect
If you play without an account
- Your gameplay. The picks you make, whether they were right, your score, and the display name you type in for the leaderboard.
- A device identifier. Browser storage on your phone that lets us connect your picks to your leaderboard spot during a game. It doesn't tell us who you are.
- The venue and game. Which venue's QR code you scanned and which game you joined.
- Basic usage information. Like most websites, our analytics tools receive technical information such as your browser and device type and which pages you view. We don't store your IP address alongside your picks or score in our game records.
If you create an account
Everything above, plus:
- Your name and email address.
- A password, stored in scrambled (hashed) form — we never store it in plain text and can't see it.
- Your history. Your scores and results across games and venues over time.
What we never collect
We don't ask for your phone number, home address, or date of birth. We don't use GPS or precise device location. Players never pay us anything, so we never collect payment information.
How we use it
- Run the game and show live leaderboards
- Figure out who won
- Keep your scores connected across games if you have an account
- Send you account-related email, like a password reset
- Fix problems, prevent cheating, and keep the service working
- Understand which venues and games are active, so we can improve SBS
Who we share it with
Venues. If you created an account and played at a venue, that venue can ask us for your name and email address so they can invite you back or tell you about upcoming games. We require venues to follow email marketing laws, include an unsubscribe link, and honor opt-outs. If you play without an account, there's nothing to share — the venue never learns who you are.
Service providers. Companies that help us run SBS — like our website hosting, database, and analytics providers. They can only use your information to provide services to us, under their own privacy commitments.
Legal reasons. If we're legally required to, or if we need to protect someone's safety or our rights.
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with data brokers.
Advertising
The player app uses no advertising tracking. When you scan a QR code and play, nothing follows you to other websites and nothing shows you ads based on how you play.
Our marketing website uses conversion measurement. So we can tell whether ads aimed at venue owners are working, playscoreboardsocial.com may measure things like whether a visit led to a sign-up or inquiry. This applies to people shopping for SBS on our marketing site — not to players in the app.
Leaderboards are public inside the venue
The display name you type in shows up on the leaderboard, which may be visible to everyone at the venue and on a TV screen. You can use whatever you want — it doesn't have to be your real name, and it isn't connected to your account name if you have one. The only rule is that it can't match someone else's name at the same venue. Pick something you're comfortable with other people seeing.
We never show your email address to anyone, on the leaderboard or anywhere else.
Cookies and similar technology
We use cookies and browser storage for:
- Making the game work. Recognizing your device so your picks stay attached to you during a game, and keeping you signed in if you have an account.
- Understanding usage. Basic analytics about how people play and where things break.
- Marketing measurement. Conversion tracking on our marketing website, as described above.
Most browsers let you block or clear cookies and site storage. If you clear the storage used for gameplay, SBS may not be able to track your picks correctly, so the game probably won't work.
How long we keep things
- Gameplay records — picks, scores, display names, and the device identifier tied to a game — are kept as long as we need them for leaderboards, season standings, and running the service. We don't currently delete them on a fixed schedule. If you have an account and want the gameplay data tied to it removed, email us.
- Account information is kept until you ask us to delete it.
- Technical and analytics logs are kept for a limited period for troubleshooting, security, and improving the service.
Your choices
- Play without an account. The simplest option — nothing account-related to delete later.
- Delete your account. Email us and we'll delete your account and the personal information attached to it.
- See what we have. Email us and we'll tell you what's associated with your account.
- Stop venue emails. Use the unsubscribe link in the venue's email. You can also email us and we'll stop sharing your address with venues.
- Clear cookies and site storage in your browser settings at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or limit the use of your personal information. Email us and we'll help regardless of where you're located — we apply these choices to everyone.
Children
SBS is built for venues like bars, breweries, and restaurants, and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords for accounts. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep very little about you, which is the best protection we can offer.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make a meaningful change, we'll post the new version here with an updated date.
